Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow – works on Google Chrome

Today when I first read about the Let it snow feature that Google have built in to their search engine as a sign of their support for the holiday season I though it were a hoax. I used Internet Explorer 9 to do the search for the term “Let it Snow” and ended up with a normal Google result.
Then I thought I maybe need to wait for it to start snowing. I waited for quite some time for the “Let it Snow” Snow to start snowing on the Google Search results as promised but to no avail. Finally I decided to use Firefox. The “Let it Snow” feature immediately started. The longer you wait the more snow will fall onto your screen, and eventually your whole screen will freeze up.
For us here in Sunny South Africa and in the Southern Hemisphere Snow in Christmas is something that just doesn’t happen. While many people in the Northern Hemisphere hopes for snow this time of year so that they can have a True white Christmas. We have also tested the “Let it Snow” Google feature in Google Chrome and it works 100% in the Google Browser.
When your screen fills up with snow you can use your mouse as a scraper to clean some of the snow off your screen. The “let it snow” search feature from Google sure did bring the Holiday Spirit to thousands of people worldwide today. We here at 3D Car Shows always love it when Google does something to warm our hearts and the “Let it Snow” campaign brought the excitement of Christmas into the offices today.
We have included the Lyrics of the original Let it Snow song. Maybe if we all sing it together this Christmas we will have a White Christmas.
Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn’t show signs of stopping, And I’ve bought some corn for popping, The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When we finally kiss goodnight, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm.
The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we’re still good-bying, But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

NASA confirms 'super-Earth' that could hold life

In another step toward finding Earth-like planets that may hold life, NASA has said the Kepler space telescope has confirmed its first-ever planet in a habitable zone outside our solar system.
French astronomers earlier this year confirmed the first rocky exoplanet to meet key requirements for sustaining life.
But Kepler-22b, initially glimpsed in 2009, is the first the US space agency has been able to confirm.
Confirmation means that astronomers have seen it crossing in front of its star three times.
But it doesn't mean that astronomers know whether life actually exists there, simply that the conditions are right.
Such planets have the right distance from their star to support water, plus a suitable temperature and atmosphere to support life.
"We have now got good planet confirmation with Kepler-22b," said Bill Borucki, Kepler principal investigator at NASA Ames Research Center.
"We are certain that it is in the habitable zone and if it has a surface, it ought to have a nice temperature," he told reporters on Monday.
Spinning around its star some 600 light years away, Kepler-22b is 2.4 times the size of the Earth, putting it in class known as "super-Earths," and orbits its Sun-like star every 290 days.
Its near-surface temperature is presumed to be about 72 degrees 22 Celsius. Scientists do not know, however, whether the planet is rocky, gaseous or liquid.
The planet's first "transit," or star crossover, was captured shortly after NASA launched its Kepler spacecraft in March 2009.
NASA also announced that Kepler has uncovered 1,094 more potential planets, twice the number it previously had been tracking, according to research being presented at a conference in California this week.
Kepler is NASA's first mission in search of Earth-like planets orbiting suns similar to ours, and cost the US space agency about USD 600 million.
It is equipped with the largest camera ever sent into space -- a 95-megapixel array of charge-coupled devices -- and is expected to continue sending information back to Earth until at least November 2012.
Kepler is searching for planets as small as Earth, including those orbiting stars in a warm, habitable zone where liquid water could exist on the surface of the planet.
The latest confirmed exoplanet that could support life brings to three the total number confirmed by global astronomers.

Bollywood's evergreen star Dev Anand, whose flamboyant image and innate romantic spirit swayed millions of fans, died in London last night following cardiac arrest.
88-year-old Dev Anand, who had come London for medical check up, was not keeping well for the last few days, family sources said.
The legendary actor's son Sunil was with him when he breathed his last.
Known for his trademark puff of hair, his sloping walk and smile, Dev Anand starred in countless hits like "Guide", "Paying Guest", "Baazi", "Jewel Thief ", "CID", "Johny Mera Naam", "Amir Garib", "Warrant", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" and "Des Pardes".
When his contemporaries like Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar stopped playing the leading men in movies, the versatile actor did not lose his innate romantic spirit and continued to woo his young heroines in movies like "Johnny Mera Naam", "Des Pardes", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" among others.
Dev Anand made his debut as an actor in 1946 in "Hum Ek Hain". By the time his "Ziddi" was released in 1947 he was a superstar and has never looked back.
For his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, Dev Anand was honoured with the prestigious the 'Padma Bhushan' in 2001 and 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 2002.
He established his film production company 'Navketan International Films' in 1949 and has produced more than 35 movies.
Dev Anand has won two Filmfare Awards - India's equivalent of the Oscars - in 1958 for his performance in the film "Kala Paani" (Black Water) and in 1966 for his performance in "Guide".
"Guide" went on to win Filmfare Awards in five other categories including "Best Film" and "Best Director" and was sent as India's entry for the Oscars in the foreign film category that year.
Dev Anand co-produced the English Version of "Guide" with the Nobel Laureate Pearl S Buck ("The Good Earth").
In 1993, he received a Filmfare "Lifetime Achievement Award" and in 1996 he received a Screen Videocon "Lifetime Achievement Award".
Of late he was involved in the direction of a new all American film Project "Song Of Life" - a musical love story which was to be shot in the United States. He was to play the central character in the film which was to have a predominantly American star cast.
Dev Anand is the second of three brothers who were active in Hindi Cinema. His brothers are Chetan Anand and Vijay Anand. Their sister, Sheel Kanta Kapur, is the mother of renowned film director Shekhar Kapur.
His films spoke of his modern sensibilities and desire to portray tomorrow's headlines today.
The Bollywood legend always said that his films were expression of his world view and hence dealt with socially-relevant subjects.
His recent movies focused on the themes of present times like "Awwal Number", "Sau Crore", "Censor", "Mr Prime Minister" and the latest "Chargesheet" where he played the central character.
Even though after `Awwal Number', his movies did not do well at the box office, the evergreen hero's mantra was always to think positive. "I never give myself a chance to get depressed. I think ahead," he would say.

London, Dec 1 (IANS) While many people may think it's an activity which should be best learned behind closed doors, an enterprising Swedish schoolmistress thinks otherwise.
Ylva-Maria Thompson has opened the world's first international sex school for teaching the art of being better lovers, the Daily Mail reported.
The Austrian International Sex School in Vienna offers 'hands on' lessons in seduction for 1,400 pounds a term. The 'headmistress' says anyone over the age of 16 can enrol at 'the world's first college of applied sexuality'.
Students of the course are expected to stay in a co-ed dormitory block where they're expected to practice their 'homework'. By the end of their course, they are awarded a qualification.
The school head said: 'Our core education is not theoretical, but very practical. The emphasis is on how to be a better lover.
'Sexual positions, caressing techniques, anatomical features. And we teach people hands on.'
School's spokesperson Melodi Kirsch exuded confidence that the school would be a great success.
The school, however, has already turned controversial in Austria with it raunchy advertisments showing a couple making love having already invited ban by Austrian TV.

‘Hinglish’ the only language that unites Indians

‘Hinglish’ — a mixture of Hindi and English widely spoken in India — may soon become the most common form of the Queen’s language, according to a British expert.
Indian expertise in writing computer software also means that Hinglish will spread via the internet, says Prof Crystal, honorary professor of linguistics at the University of Wales.
“Certain phrases are bound to become global with so many Indians working in information technology. As more Indians talk in chat rooms and send emails, the phrases and words they use to describe their lives will be picked up by others on the internet,” he says.
Some are archaic, relics of the Raj, such as ‘pukka’.
Others are newly coined, such as ‘time-pass’, meaning an activity that helps kill time.
India’s success in attracting business has recently produced a new verb. Those whose jobs are outsourced to India are said to have been ‘Bangalored’.
English has long enjoyed a special status in India because of the country’s colonial history.
It is still the language of the government, the elite and the media. It is also the only language that unites Indians in a country that has 14 official ones and more than 1,600 dialects.

India's first 'Rock Theme Park' in Kerala to woo tourists

A 1000-feet high rocky hill cluster at Chadayamangalam in south Kerala, believed to be connected with mythical character 'Jatayu' in epic Ramayana, will woo tourists as the country's first 'Rock Theme Park'.
According to local tradition, the rock, 'Jatayupara' in Kollam district, is the place where the mythical bird 'Jatayu' fell after its wings were slain by the ten-headed Ravana by his lethal sword 'Chandrahasam'.
As per the epic, Ravana, who ruled Lankapuri (Sri Lanka), chopped off one of the wings of the bird when it tried to block his airship 'Pushpaka Vimanam' in which he was forcibly taking away Rama's consort Sita.
The project is a blend of ecological and epic tourism and the state government, through this public-private partnership venture, is building a high-tech theme park on the rocky terrain with a mammoth statue of 'Jatayu' as its core.
A host of facilities such as 4D theatre complex, cable van, ayurveda resorts and massage parlours, ethnic cottages and a mural painting gallery are also taking shape at the spot, located about 50 km from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
The whole site is conceived as a resort where holidayers can relax and have a peep into the culture, heritage and tradition of India through films, paintings in a fitting ambience of panoramic settings, said Rajiv Anchal, noted film maker and sculptor, who is the art-director of the project.
"The huge statue of Jatayu, laying on its back with wings spread out with raised head, will be the heart of the park. The statue, 65 feet in height, 200 feet length and 150 feet width, is designed as a functional structure within which a 50-seat 4D theatre complex will be built," Rajiv said.
Once completed, the Jatayu sculpture would be the biggest functional sculpture in Asia. It can be termed as the tallest as well, he said.
"The 'Rock Theme Park' will strengthen Kerala's position in the global tourism map. It will open a fresh destination for foreign as well as global tourists," Rajiv said.
A total of Rs 100 crore was expected for this venture. Fifty per cent of the construction of the bird statue has been completed. "We think we can complete the first phase within one year," state Tourism Secretary V Venu said.
The bird structure will have three-tiers with a total of 20,000 sq ft utility space. The visitors who enter the sculpture can literally have a bird's eye view as Jatayu's eyes are designed to be around windows opening to the world.
"A telescope will also be installed there to have a closer view of the panoramic scenes of the surroundings," Rajiv, whose film 'Guru' got the official Indian entry at the Oscars in 1997, said.
Visitors can view a 4D film on the 'Jatayu' episode of Ramayana in the theatre, designed on Hollywood standards.
The inside walls of the structure would be decorated with traditional mural paintings, which would be based on the poems on 'Jatayu' penned by Jnanpith laureate ONV Kurup.
Local tradition has it that the village with the imposing rock as its backdrop, got the name 'Chandayamangalam' because of its association with Jatayu. The area has remained obscure for long before its tourism potential was discovered.
Only devotees visiting a temple of Lord Rama in the area used to have a glance at the panoramic view of the surrounding area in the past.
A never-drying pond, believed to have sprung when the rock suffered a deep cut from Jayatyu's beak, and the markings on the rock held in high reverence by local people as foot prints of Rama, are other highlights of the spot.
"As the name itself suggests, rock will be the theme of the park. As part of the project, many artificial rocks, rock-like structures and cottages will be built around without harming the natural rock. It will be built in such a way that nobody could easily understand which is original rock and which are created by artists," Anchal said.
There would be a winding foot path leading up to the top stretching to several kilometers. Places for rest and a host of kiosks of coffee and ethnic snacks like baked tapioca, 'chiratta puttu' and 'dry-ginger coffee' will also be set up throughout the path.
Rock-carved honeymoon cottages and herbal gardens to grow a variety of shrubs and plants will be other features of the theme park. Pure water, collected and preserved through rain water harvesting, will be supplied to the visitors round the year. Electricity will also be generated within the park tapping the in-house sources.
"We are planning to build a tiny reservoir to collect and preserve rain water on the rock cluster. Solar panels will be installed and electricity will be produced from solar energy for the park. We have already signed MoUs with private investors for this," Rajiv said.
The Tourism Department has entered into a pact with a Dubai based company to install a 'cable car' facility in the 'Jatayu Rock Theme Park', he said.
It would be the first time cable cars were introduced in any tourist centre in Kerala, he said.
"The Rock Theme Park will strengthen Keralas position in the global tourism map. It will open a fresh destination for foreign as well as global tourists,"

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was on Monday anointed the tenth Nawab of Pataudi at a ceremony at his ancestral palace here over a month after his father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away.
The 41-year-old actor was made the Nawab at a pagdi ceremony this morning at the Ibrahim Palace here, where heads of 52 villages tied a white turban around his head as mother Sharmila Tagore, sisters Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan looked on.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was also present.
Mr. Khan has been given the honorary title last held by his father, who died on September 22 following chronic lung infection.
Mr. Khan was initially reluctant to be anointed as the Nawab, a title no longer recognised by the government, but gave-in to the tradition to honour the sentiments of villagers.
As the newly appointed Nawab, Mr. Khan will have to take care of his father’s estate, their ancestral home, eye hospital and other charitable institutions.
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, whose mother was the daughter of the last Nawab of Bhopal, Hamidullah Khan, was born in Bhopal and was the mutawalli (patron) of the Auqaf-e-Shahi, the body managing the religious and charitable endowments of the erstwhile princely State.
The late Pataudi took over from his mother as heir in the Bhopal royal family, allowing him to become the mutawalli of dozens of shrines, orphanages and religious trusts that are part of the princely Waqf properties of Bhopal.
As mutawalli, the late Pataudi governed religious properties worth over Rs 2,000 crore, including Bhopal’s Jama Masjid. He also enjoyed special discretionary powers to sanction free lodging at the Rubat (building) at Mecca and Medina.
The Pataudi palace in Gurgaon, built in 1935, is sprawled across 25 acres and is divided into two parts, a main building and an annexe. One part of it has been turned into a heritage hotel where a number of English and Hindi films have been shot.
Pataudi gave up his title in 1971 when India abolished royal entitlements through the 26th Amendment to the Constitution of India.
Mr. Khan’s sister Saba was made the patron of the Auqaf-e-Shahi last week.

Bhupen Hazarika: The bard of Brahmaputra falls silent

Bhupen Hazarika, the 'bard of Brahmaputra' whose ability to weave magic out of traditional music died of multiple organ failure at a Mumbai hospital, plunging millions of fans across the country, especially those in eastern India, into gloom.
Hazarika,86, was on the ventilator for four months and had been in and out of hospital, passed away at 4.37 p.m. on Saturday at Kokilaben Hospital in India's entertainment capital. His long time companion, filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, his nephews and some well wishers from his home state of Assam were at his side when he died.
His body will be flown to Guwahati on Monday and kept at Judges Field for two days for the public to pay homage.
His death cast a pall of gloom on his millions of fans. Many in Assam were grief stricken as news of his death spread.
A poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and filmmaker, the self-proclaimed 'jajabor' (wanderer) took the rich folk heritage of Assam and interpreted it beautifully for the world through his songs.
With his death, the country has lost not only one of its few balladeers but also one of its greatest cultural icons, cherished in Dhaka as much as in Guwahati.
Born in 1926 in Sadiya into a family of teachers, the academically-talented Hazarika completed his basic education from Guwahati in 1942, BA from Banaras Hindu University in 1944 and MA (Pol Sc) in 1946. He did his PhD in Mass Communication from Columbia University. He also received the Lisle Fellowship from Chicago University, US to study the use of educational project development through cinema.
During his stay in the US, he met the legendary black singer Paul Robeson, whose famous number 'Old man river' was successfully transformed to the megahit 'Bistirno parore' ('O Ganga behti ho' in Hindi), a virtual anthem for generations of pro-Left activists.
In an interview to a national daily many years ago, he attributed his singing to tribal music.
"As a child, I grew up listening to tribal music - its rhythm saw me developing an inclination towards singing. Perhaps, I inherited my singing skills from my mother, who sang lullabies to me. In fact, I have used one of my mother's lullabies in 'Rudali'," the Dadasaheb Phalke winner had said.
He sang his first song 'Biswa nijoy nojowan' (in the second Assamese film "Indramalati") in 1939 at the age of 12.
In addition to his native Assamese, Hazarika composed, wrote and sang for numerous Bengali and Hindi films from 1930s to the 1990s besides other songs.
He was also one of the leading author-poets of Assam with more than 1,000 lyrics and several books including short stories, essays, travelogues, poems and children’s rhymes.
He produced and directed, composed music and sang for Assamese films like Era Batar Sur, Shakuntala, Loti ghoti, Pratidhwani, Chick Mick Bijuli, Swikarokti and Siraj.
His most famous Hindi films include his long-time companion Kalpana Lajmi’s Rudaali, Ek Pal, Darmiyaan, Sai Paranjpe’s Papiha and Saaz, Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe and M. F. Husain’s Gajagamini.
“You paint through your songs. But I can’t sing with my paintbrush. It’s up to you to fill this lacuna in my artistry. That’s why I’ve taken you,” Husain apparently told Hazarika after choosing him for the music score of Gajagamini.
Last year, Hazarika featured in his first music video –“Our Northeast, Our Star” with music and lyrics by 3 Idiots duo Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire.
He also lent his voice to this year’s film Gandhi To Hitler, where he sang Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan ‘Vaishnav jan’
He came to Mumbai to work in the Indian People’s Theatre Movement (IPTA) with Salil Chowdhury, Balraj Sahni and other Marxist intellectuals. He soon made the city his second home.
“The generous city and its people have welcomed me, accepted me, and given me my second home since so many years. I admire its people for its willingness to allow people from the rest of India to earn a living and prosper, irrespective of caste, creed or colour,” he once said about his life in Mumbai.
A recipient of prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1992, Dr. Hazarika rendered music, written lyrics and sung for numerous Assamese, Bengali and Hindi films from 1930s to the 1990s.
The Assam Government awarded him with the highest honour of the State “Asom Ratna” in 2008 and bestowed its highest award the ‘Shankar Dev Award’ in 1987 for his contribution to Assam’s culture.
He received the National Award for Best Music Director in 1976 for Chameli Memsaab and President’s medal for his films Shakuntala (1960), Pratidhwani (1964) and Lotighoti (1967).
He was a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from 1967-72 and was awarded the Padmashri in 1977 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1987. He was the chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi from 1999-2004.
He was also a member of Assam Film Development Council and the Central Board of Film Certification.
In 2003, he was appointed as a member of the Pratidhwani Board.

Dennis Ritchie : Father of C programming language dies .
Dennis Ritchie(September 9, 1941 – October 8, 2011), an internationally renowned computer scientist who created the C programming language, has died at age 70. He was suffering from cancer and heart disease.
Ritchie is credited with creating the programming language C, one of the most widely used and influential languages today. He was also one of the creators of operating system UNIX, whose variants — most notably Linux and OS X — are also widely used today.
Ritchie went to work at Bell Labs' Computing Sciences Research Center in 1967 and was widely known as "dmr"--his Bell Labs e-mail address. As part of an AT&T restructuring in the mid-1990s, Ritchie was transferred to Lucent Technologies, where he retired in 2007 as head of System Software Research Department.
He received a Turing Award in 1983 and the US National Medal of Technology in 1998 along with Thompson for his work on C and Unix.
Programmers will perhaps best remember Ritchie for his famous “hello, world” program, which is used in many programming textbooks, even those that don’t pertain to C, as an example of a very simple computer program .

Google+ Has 40 Million Users, But How Many Use It?

Google has announced its earnings for the most recent quarter, and—surprise!—they made lots and lots and lots of money, mostly off of search revenue. Which is the same story that's been written about Google earnings for the last ten years.
But! While the company didn't break out any specific numbers on Android usage, they did confirm that Google+ has over 40 million users. "Users," here, being loosely defined, since Google+ is a relative ghost town of privately shared links about how Google+ is a ghost town. And given how heavily Google+ was promoted in the early days—across however many millions and millions of Gmail accounts—is it wrong to be a little surprised that there aren't even more people who signed up?
Google will be hosting a call to discuss earnings (a not at all shabby $9.72 billion revenue, $2.73 billion net income) at 4:30EST, which will hopefully include some goodies on Android activations, Ice Cream Sandwich, and the Motorola acquisition.

Ghazal king Jagjit Singh, the soul-stirring voice behind 'Hazaron khwaishe aisi', 'Ye kaghaz ki kashti and 'Jhuki jhuki si nazar', died Monday morning over a fortnight after he suffered brain haemorrhage.
The 70-year-old singer, who alongwith his wife Chitra almost rediscovered the ghazal genre for common Indian in 70s and 80s, was admitted to the Lilavati hospital on 23rd September and was in coma since then.
"Jagjit Singh passed away at 8.10 AM after having a terrible hemorrhage," said Dr Sudhir Nandgaonkar, hospital spokesperson.
The day he was admitted, he was supposed to perform at a concert at Shanmukhananda Hall, Matunga, in Mumbai but the programme was cancelled after he was taken ill. Despite a surgery, his condition did not improve and he remained on life support.
Singh, a Padma Bhushan recipient, was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, on 8th February, 1941.
After graduation, he shifted base to Mumbai, to explore career in the world of music. In the next decade and half, he earned nationwide fame as ghazal singer and music composer. He sang in several languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati, Nepali, Bhojpuri.
His personal life, though, was marked by a tragedy: His only son, Vivek, died in a car accident in 1990 when he was just 18.
The music world expressed grief on hearing the news of Jagjit Singh's death. Fellow ghazal singer, Pankaj Udhas, described Jagjit as an "extremely versatile singer".
"I am devastated after hearing the tragic news," Udhas said on phone from Pune.
PM condoles Jagjit Singh's death
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condoled the demise of noted ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, saying he would be remembered for his "golden voice".
Noting that he is among Jagjit's admirers, the Prime Minister said he shared the sorrow of his fans.
In his condolence message, Dr Singh said by "making ghazals accessible to everyone, he gave joy and pleasure to millions of music lovers in India and abroad....he was blessed with a golden voice".
The Prime Minister said the ghazal maestro's music legacy will continue to "enchant and entertain" the people. Jagjit Singh (70) passed away this morning at Lilavati hospital in Mumbai.

Sachin Tendulkar’s dream home comes true

On the first day of Navratri, Sachin Tendulkar has moved into his new home in Bandra — a five-storeyed bungalow at 19-A, Perry Cross Street. It has reportedly cost the world’s richest cricketer a whopping Rs 39 crore (about $7.9 million at today’s prices).
The ‘dream house’ has been designed keeping in mind the master blasters love for cars.
It is said that the second basement of the house can hold 45-50 cars at a time. The first basement includes the kitchen, master surveillance room and servant quarters.
The house has three other floors where Tendulkar will live along with his wife and two kids.
The ground floor comprises of large drawing room with a separate dining space for the entire family and a temple of Lord Ganesha on the ground floor premises.
The floor will also house a special display area where Sachin’s innumerable medals and trophies will be kept.
Also there is a swimming pool on the roof.
Earlier, UFO Moviez’s Club X presented their membership to Tendulkar after India’s World Cup win and are setting up a mini-theatre for the legendary batsman.
UFO Moviez Club X brings the first day first show of any movie from cinema halls to homes through their digital servers. Ameya Hete, who is also a close friend of Tendulkar and an integral part of UFO is currently setting up a mini-theatre at the cricket legend’s home.
The members of this exclusive club are from the corporate world, socio-political sector and the Indian film fraternity such as Mukesh Ambani, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ajay Devgn.
“Sachin’s theatre will be the best even amongst the Club X members because it will be able to house the entire cricket team (should the legend decide to extend an invitation) and even the management. It will have a minimum of 23-25 seats and is being equipped with the best sound system. One hears that work came to a slight standstill because Sachin was away in England for the Test season,” a source was quoted by Times of India.

NASA says a defunct 6-ton satellite has fallen from the sky, the agency posted on its official Twitter site that the spacecraft crashed through the atmosphere early Saturday.
A location was not immediately known. Most of it was believed to have burned up.
The Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite was NASA's biggest spacecraft to tumble out of orbit, uncontrolled, in 32 years.
UARS was launched aboard space shuttle Discovery in 1991. NASA decommissioned the satellite in 2005, after moving it into a lower orbit that cut its life short by two decades.
Bits of space junk re-enter the atmosphere virtually every day. No injuries have ever been reported from it.

Easy Ways to Increase your Adsense Revenue

How much revenue do you generate from Google Adsense?
Recently there has been a lot of discussion about people who earn over $10,000 a month just from Adsense. Furthermore, there are rumors of a few individuals who earn over $1 million a year just from using the power of Google advertisements.
So what is Google Adsense and how can you use this program to earn a six-figure income?
About two years ago, Google created this program to help websites to monetize their web-traffic.
Here's how it works:
Webmasters obtain a special code from Google which then displays targeted ads on their website. Whenever a visitor clicks on one of these ads, the webmaster earns a commission. Unlike other online businesses, there is no selling involved. All you need to do is get people to click on the ads.
Although this is an excellent way to generate an income, many websites are not effectively maximizing their Adsense potential. As a result, they are leaving a lot of cash on the table.
The question is how can you increase your Adsense revenue without increasing the number of web visitors?
The key to earning an income with Google Adsense is to have your ads match the rest of the site, making them look like part of your content. Your focus is to avoid having the Adsense blocks look like blatant advertisements.
The following are six ways that you can do this and increase your revenue at the same time:
1) Find the right place- Most website visitors read content that is in the middle of a webpage. As a result, the best place to put your Adsense block is in the top part of the page, at the beginning of your web content. You want to weave the Google Ads into your web content to give the appearance that they are extra links which expand on the information of the page.
2) Use the Large Rectangle-With Google Adsense, you have the option of picking different ad formats. Most of the time people opt to use the Leaderboard (728x90) or Wide Skyscraper (160x600) style ads. Unfortunately, this is the wrong choice, because both look like blatant advertisements. Instead smart webmasters have found that using the Large Rectangle (336x280) yields the best amount of click-thrus.
3) Ditch the border- Many people experience a sharp increase in Adsense revenue when they changing their border. What they change is very simple…they get rid of the border on their Adsense blocks. This is another way to make the advertisements look like useful web content.
4) Adapt the font- Whenever you write content, it should be the same font size and style as your Google Adsense block. This will help make it appear that the advertisements are a natural part of your website.
5) Match the colors- In addition to changing the fonts, you also should match the colors of your website. For instance, if your content is written in black, and your hyperlinks are blue, then the Adsense blocks should also be the same color. Again, this helps the advertisements appear to be normal web content.
6) Don't have too many distractions- On a webpage, it is important to give web visitor a limited number of options. By having too many links and graphics, the web visitor might go to a section that doesn't help increase your profits. While it is important to inform and entertain your web visitor, it is also vital that you monetize your site. So if the main focus of your site is to earn an income through Google Adsense, then get rid of all non-essential links and graphics.
By taking the time to implement these six simple steps, you'll see a dramatic increase in the click-thru ratio of your ads. If added to all of the content of your site, your Adsense income will skyrocket!

Having a Google AdSense site is a great way to make money. And to create an AdSense site, all you have to do is have a Google AdSense account (which is free), a website or a blog (which is free), and some articles (which are free if you write them yourself). Once you get your site up and running, the AdSense ads will be targeted to your content.
Therefore, those looking for your content will come by, read your articles, and have a high probability of being interested in the targeted ads. Every time someone clicks an ad, you get paid! That is, as long as you have designed your site to maximize AdSense clickthroughs!
Let's look at seven tips for creating AdSense sites that create money.
#1: Keyword Density
Before you place ads on your site, be sure your keyword density is good. You will want to be sure that the right kinds of ads are placed on your site. A free way to determine what the ads will look like on your site is to go to http://www.resultsgenerator.com/adsense/ and type in your keywords. You will then be able to see exactly what ads would show on your site.
If you don't like what you see, then you know that you need to make changes to your keywords! You can get keyword suggestions from Results Generator from Overture or from the free trial version of Word Tracker.
#2: Focused
Not only will the ads be based on your keywords, but they will also be based on your content. You definitely want your keywords and your content to match as closely as possible.
#3: Write Often
The more information you have the better. Why? Because the more content you have, the more visitors you get. Many people suggest that you write a new article every day since no one wants to come back to your site to find the same old messages!
#4: Choose The Right Format
AdSense allows you to choose many different ad formats. Research has shown that wider ads are more successful. The top three formats are:
" 336x280 large rectangle
" 300x250 medium rectangle
" 160x600 wide skyscraper
Additionally, the 468x15 horizontal ad link under the navigation bar is also a good bet.
#5: Color Counts
You have the option to create a Google AdSense ad in any color of your choice. The best thing to do is to make your ad blend well with your site color scheme. You should make the border color and the background color the same color as your web site. You will want your text color to either be black or the color of your main content.
When creating your Google AdSense ads it is recommended to use the color scheme and style of your website so that the ads blend in well. Ads without background color and borders perfom better than ads within borders with background color.
#6: Position Counts, Too
It is well known that visitors to a website scan the site to determine if it is worth reading. You definitely want them to see and scan your AdSense ads. Therefore, the best place to put them is in the top left part of your page or directly under your headlines.
#7: Increase The Number
AdSense allows you to use up to three AdSense units on a page, two AdSense search boxes, and one unit of ad links. Using all that you can increases the chances of earning money.
Keep these seven tips in mind when creating your AdSense site and you will find that your clickthrough rates increase, thus increasing your money making potential.

Tata Pixel city car concept

The Tata Pixel, with ‘Zero Turn’ drive and an innovative diamond-shaped door system, is a city car concept for Europe from Tata Motors.
Based on the Tata Nano, the Pixel – at just over three metres in length – is the most package efficient four-seater in the world, comfortably accommodating four adults, unlike a typical city car which is either a two-seater or can accommodate two adults and two children only.
The Tata Pixel’s ability to maneuver and park in the tightest of spaces is made possible by its Zero Turn toroidal traction-drive Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT).
This highly efficient, cost-effective system assists rotation of the outer rear wheel forwards and the inner rear wheel backwards during low-speed manoeuvres, while the front wheels turn at acute angles. The result is a turning circle radius of just 2.6 metres. The glass area on the scissor doors provides excellent visibility even in the most extreme turning manoeuvre.
The Tata Pixel also introduces “My Tata Connect” -- the first integrated human-machine interface (HMI) concept from Tata Motors for its new generation programmes.
“My Tata Connect” enables seamless integration of the user’s smartphone or tablet with the vehicle’s infotainment system and also allows controlling key functions of the car.
With optimised aerodynamic drag, low rolling-resistance tyres, stop-start technology, and intelligent battery charging, the Tata Pixel returns European combined cycle (NEDC) fuel economy of 3.4 l/100km and CO2 emissions of just 89g/km.
In addition to serving as the infotainment display when docked in the instrument panel, the tablet also allows temperature, ventilation and air-conditioning settings to be adjusted through its touch screen, as well as displaying information on the vehicle's performance.
A 1.2 litre three-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, positioned at the rear of the Tata Pixel, gives lively performance.
The 'scissor' doors rotate upwards from the front to allow all four passengers to effortlessly enter or exit the Tata Pixel, even in the tightest of spaces, while the doors' large glass area provides excellent visibility.
A forward sweeping roofline, with minimal front and rear overhangs, accentuates the youthful styling, while the window graphic features an interchangeable island that can be used to change the exterior appearance whenever desired.
The engine is a low-friction design, featuring variable coolant and oil pump and rapid warm-up technologies.

Google has released priority inbox for their Gmail services a year back which did not help many to manage their inbox properly. Now they have added multiple Inbox styles for the users to select the best one suiting their needs.
A new Inbox styles bar has been added to the Gmail UI.
Following options are available on the bar:
Classic
This is the default inbox style. All mails are displayed in the chronological order of their arrival i.e. most recent mails at the top of your inbox
Important first
All your important mails will be listed at the top. Importance in terms of people you are interacting with the most i.e. Top spot is given to mails from people you are communicating with.
Unread first
As the names goes, all your unread mails at the top and rest follow.
Starred first
As the name goes, all your starred mails at the top in chronological order and rest follow.
Priority Inbox
That’s the old style i.e. Unread, important and starred mails are displayed in order and then rest follow.
From last couple of months I was looking for Unread emails in my Gmail inbox but couldn’t find it and it was extremely painful to go to archives just to see what all are unread . But now this is extremely easy.
You can close the bar if you don’t like it or is annoying you.
You can also change the Inbox style using the down arrow button on right of the Inbox hyperlink as in the screenshot below:

Terror struck the Capital when a powerful bomb placed in a briefcase ripped through a crowded reception area at the entrance to the High Court this morning killing 11 people and leaving 64 injured.
The "high intensity" bomb blast outside the High Court compound between Gate No. 4 and 5 occured at 10.14 AM when 100 to 200 litigants were waiting to get passes to enter the premises. Some lawyers were also present at that time.
Home Minister P Chidambaram said the blast was of "high intensity" and called it a "terrorist attack". The blast also left a 3-4 feet crater at the site of the explosion.
Chidambaram said it was not possible to identify the group behind the attack. It was for the second time in less than four months that the Delhi High Court was targeted. No one was injured in the previous explosion on May 25.
Union Home Ministry sources said the death toll has risen to 11. Sixty-five persons were injured out of whom 15 are in a serious condition.
The probe into the blast was handed over by Government to the National Investigation Agency(NIA) whose Chief S C Sinha said a 20-member team headed by a DIG has been formed.
A TV channel said it had received a mail purportedly written by Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami(HuJI).
Sinha felt it was too premature to comment on HuJI mail but said NIA was looking at it seriously because the outfit is a very prominent terrorist group which considers India as target number one.He said there were no clear leads as of now.
Lawyers and litigants with blood soaked clothes ran helter-skelter and chaos broke out after the deafening explosion in the heart of the Capital which could be heard even one km away. Some complained of hearing loss.
Broken limbs and pieces of flesh were strewn on the ground along with shards of glass.
An eyewtiness suggested that the bomber may have queued up at the reception gate for entry passes and left the briefcase in which the bomb was hidden.
Court proceedings were suspended for a while before they were resumed.
Union Home Secretary R K Singh said the bomb had all the makings of an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) set up by a terror group.
Singh said the bomb was kept in a suitcase since some of its remains were still in it.
After the bomb blast, panic-stricken people ran helter-skelter as it was chaos at the High Court premises. "I was just 10 metres from the site of the blast," said Rahul Gupta, a litigant, who was at the reception counter
"I saw a lot of people lying around in a pool of blood," he added.
The injured were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia(RML) Safdarjung and AIIMS hospitals.
Doctors at RML said most of the splinter injuries sustained were below the waist level. Some persons also sustained burn injuries.

Delhi will soon have a world-class institute that will impart training to people and chalk out strategies to curb the effects of climate change, CM Sheila Dikshit said.
Replying to a short duration discussion on environment in New Delhi on Thursday, Dikshit said her government has decided to set up Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Combating Climate Change at Bakauli spread over an area of 18 acres.
"The institute will come up in the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Integrated Rural Energy Planning and Development which is presently under utilised," she said.
Noting that multi-pronged strategies are needed to control pollution in the city which has 65 lakhs vehicles, she said her government was also looking for a technology to generate energy from the waste.
"The number of vehicles is much more than number of total vehicles in other metro cities together," she said.
Around 8,000 metric tonne garbage is being generated in Delhi on daily basis, she said.
To control air pollution in Delhi, air ambience fund has been created by imposing a fee of Rs 0.25 per litre of diesel sale in Delhi, she added.
For promotion of vehicles operated with clean fuel, the government is giving subsidy to battery operated vehicles from air ambience fund, sandeep said.

Reliance Industries has reclaimed the numero-uno position in the domestic market capitalisation charts, racing past state-run ONGC to emerge as the country's most-valued company yet again.
With a market value of Rs 2,42,283 crore at 1027 hours on Monday morning, RIL surpassed ONGC's market cap of Rs 2,38,270 crore to reclaim the top position.
On Friday, ONGC had toppled billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries to claim the title of the country's most-valued company.
Shares of RIL went up by 3.49 percent to touch an early high of Rs 744.65 on the BSE on Monday.
The surge in the bellwether stock was a significant contributor to the overall bullish trend in the market, with the benchmark Sensex trading higher by 348.39 points at 16,197.22 at 1027 hours.
The share price of ONGC, too, rose by 1.43 percent to touch an early peak of Rs 282 on the BSE.
At the end of Friday's trade, RIL had a market cap of Rs 2,35,571 crore, while ONGC commanded a market value of Rs 2,37,842 crore.
RIL had first toppled ONGC to become the country's most-valued firm way back in late 2006, but the state-run energy giant later reclaimed the top position, albeit only for a few brief period.
In the past few days, a veritable game of musical chairs has been played out between the country's most-valued firms on the bourses.
Earlier, on 17th August, state-run Coal India Ltd (CIL) had dethroned RIL to become the country's top-valued firm.
Then, two days later on 19th August, RIL briefly slipped to third position in the valuation charts, after CIL and ONGC, only to reclaim the No. 2 position by the market close.
CIL's stint at the top proved to be short-lived, with RIL reclaiming this position within six days on 23rd August.
A day later, on 24th August, CIL lost further ground and slipped to third position in the valuation charts after RIL and ONGC.
CIL continues to be the country's third-most valued company, with total market capitalisation of Rs 2,31,052 crore on Monday morning.

Russia on Saturday successfully test launched its Bulava inter-continental ballistic missile to its maximum range of 8,000 km, in a boost to the country's defence capabilities.
The missile was fired successfully by the White sea-based Russian nuclear submarine Yuri Dolgoruky, the Defence Ministry said today.
The successful launch of the Bulava came after a string of setbacks suffered by this programme.
Only eight of its previous 15 launches were officially declared successful.
"The regular launch of the missile was conducted at 7:20 am Moscow time from a submerged position from the regular carrier in line with the state flight development tests at a maximum flight range of the missile," a defence ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by Russian news agency Ria Novosti.
The missile successfully reached its target in the Pacific Ocean in accordance with the necessary shipping security measures, the spokesman said.
The successful test of the missile was reported to President Dmitry Medvedev by the defence minister Anatoly Serdyukov.
The Bulava, expected to become Russia's main naval strategic missile, is capable of carrying 10 warheads with a range of 8,000 km.
The first test launch from the Yuri Dolgoruky was conducted on June 28, 2011. Before that the missiles were fired from the typhoon-class Dmitry Donskoy submarine.
The three-stage missile is specifically designed for deployment on Borey class nuclear submarines.
